Incandescent light fixtures are those that produce electric light through a heated wire filament. The wire filament is placed within a bulb, both protecting the filament from physical damage and oxidation. Incandescent lights typically operate at a range between 1.5 volts to 300 volts, and their benefits include low manufacturing costs, alternating and direct current compatibility, and they require no external regulating equipment. For their applications, incandescent lights are most often used for household and commercial lighting, car headlamps, advertising lighting, and more.

Fluorescent lights come in the form of low pressure mercury-vapor gas-discharge lamps that glow through fluorescence. To produce light, an electric current is passed through the mercury vapor, exciting it to cause short wave ultraviolet light to be produced. This ultraviolet light is then used to cause the phosphor coating of the lamp to glow, achieving sufficient lumens for use. Fluorescent lights are much more efficient at converting electricity into light as compared to incandescent bulbs, and they are most often used for commercial, retail, and classroom lighting.

LED lamps are those that produce illumination through one or more light-emitting diodes. As compared to the fluorescent and incandescent light, LED light is much more efficient and has a greater lifespan. LED lights are capable of coming to full brightness without having to warm up, and they often produce a light color that is described as “warm white” or “cool white”. While LEDs are often used for general lighting, they have since begun to find use for automobiles, plants, and various special applications.
